Pollution ~ Cause and Effect

Pollution is the process of making land, water, air or other parts of the environment dirty and not safe or suitable to use. This is done through the introduction of contamination in a natural environment, but the contaminant do not need to be tangible. Things as simple as light, sound and temperature can be considered pollutants when introduced artificially into an environment. Major pollution started in the 1750s when industries started to develop around the world. Pollution has harmed the environment in many negative ways like killing plants and animals and adding poisonous toxins to the air and ground.

Toxic pollution affects more than 200 million people worldwide. In some of the world's worst polluted places, babies are born with birth defects, children have lost 30 to 40 IQ points, and life expectancy may be as low as 45 years because of cancers and other diseases.

There are 3 main types of pollution, land pollution, water pollution, and air pollution. Land can become polluted by household garbage and by industrial waste. In 2014, Americans produced about 258 million tons of solid waste. Water pollution happens when chemicals or dangerous foreign substances are introduced to water, including chemicals, sewage, pesticides and fertilizers from agricultural runoff, or metals like lead or mercury. Air pollution occurs when things that aren't normally there are added to the air like CO2.

Let’s go on one of a many journeys of ways that what would happen if there was trash on the ground. Firstly, the trash would get picked up by wind or rain in which would reach a stream. Secondly, the trash would flow downstream in to a river which is emptied into the ocean. Thirdly, the trash would make its way to a garbage patch. Fourthly, a animal like a bird or fish will eat it and die. Lastly, the process will happen all over again. This process is disturbing the environment and the ecosystem. Now let’s go on one of a many journey of way’s that would happen if trash was properly deposited in a trash can. Firstly, the trash would be taken by a garbage truck to the dump. At the dump the trash would be properly disposed( if taken by the right company).
